20th June 2018.  Completion of the project  „Training of Female Volunteers” at the Educational-Medical-Rehabilitation Centre for Children and Young Persons of the Polish Association for the Blind at the „Little Castle” in Rudołtowice

On 20th June 2018 we completed the project with a celebratory picnic in the beautiful park at this site.  The aim of the project was to train youngsters chosen from amongst high school volunteers to work with disabled children.  The project has been recorded as one of the strategic goals of our organisation Soroptimist International which aims to increase knowledge and skills.  We have been working on this project since the second quarter of 2017 and received financial assistance for its implementation from the European Federation of SI.

The project began in December 2017.  Between 1st December 2017 and 30th May 2018 workshops for the girls and women who had volunteered to work took place at the Educational-Medical-Rehabilitation Centre for Children and Young Persons of the Polish Association for the Blind at the ”Little Castle” in Rudołtowice.  This training attracted the interest of quite a large number of young women as 165 persons applied for the course.  88 persons received course completion certificates.

The start of the picnic constituted the official part of the gathering.  The Centre’s director, Beata Brom, as well as the President of our Club Urszula Machowska, expressed sincere words of thanks to the female volunteers.  Madam President gave certificates of participation to all the young women who had diligently taken part in the activities and practical workshops.  That this training was important, not just for the participants but for the management teams of the schools from which the girls were recruited, is attested by the fact that the school directors also attended the ceremony in Rudołtowice.

It is worth emphasising that the collaboration of our Club with the Centre in Rudołtowice began as far back as 2013 (vide Rudołtowice project). Our club is one of the centre’s partners and the name of our club and the organisation’s logo can be seen on http://www.zameczek.org.pl/partnerzy

Once the official proceedings were over field sports, organised by staff at the centre, took place for the youngsters and all were invited for barbequed sausages and cakes prepared by members of our club.  The picnic was very pleasant and warm-hearted, which can be seen on our photos but our young volunteers never forgot about the people they were caring for, even during the games, and took them for walks across the park…
